History

“Safefood Pakistan” is an initiative taken to meet the increasing need of Food & Health safety awareness in Pakistan. This first-of-its-kind effort was launched in 2002 and was meant to inform the manufacturers, consumers, regulators, academia and distributors of food products about the importance of safe practices and hygiene. It has since become an annual event, with each year’s conference emphasizing and discussing on the prevalent issues contemporary to the time.

Safeood 2009 "Significance in Recessionary Times"
The eighth Safe Food conference focused on the importance and advantages of investing in food safety, even in a turbulent economic climate. The conference drew over 500 participants from the Industry, media and public and proved to be the most popular food safety event in Pakistan.

Safefood 2008 – “A Consumer Perspective”
The Safe Food Conference of 2008 was focused to capture the essence of the ongoing evolution in the field of food sciences and aimed to creating awareness of emerging trends in health, regulations affecting consumers and history. It also addressed our community’s perspective on foods of the future, market trends and discussed on how to balance expectations with ever increasing innovation in the food arena.

Safefood 2007 – “Forging Public-Private Partnerships”
In 2007, Safefood moved to Islamabad to explore and develop Public/Private co-operation in combating issues related to Food Safety in Pakistan. The conference’s objective was to form linkages and partnerships between the Public and Private sectors to better protect public health by significantly reducing the prevalence of food borne hazards, thereby reducing acute and chronic illnesses and injuries through science-based and coordinated regulation, inspection, enforcement, research, and education programs.

Safefood 2006 – “International Perspective”
The theme of this conference was designed to draw upon the best scientific resources available, to provide advice and guidance to the food industry. The focus of the conference was to update the industry on the latest trends and issues to food industry and help create an environment where consumers and manufacturers can have confidence in the food they eat and produce.

Safefood 2005 – “WTO – Are we ready?”
This 4th national conference revolved around the future of the local food industry and compliance with WTO/SPS, WHO and other global requirements. It served our delegates, such as local food manufacturers who had been venturing in the global market at the time, to understand the increasing demand of quality and safety of their food supply.

Safefood 2004 – “Focused on Food Safety”
This conference’s vision pertained to the serious issue of food borne diseases and dealt with how such food borne illnesses affect the general public’s health and well-being. It also aimed to create awareness of growing importance of standards, guidelines, and other recommendations for protecting the health of consumers, assuring fair trading and manufacturing practices.
