Safe Canteen
School canteens have a special role to play in the education, health and well-being of the students and school communities that they serve. However, like all businesses they need sound advice on operational and managerial practices to function effectively.
The initiative of setting up a role model Safe Canteen in schools was derived from promoting the concept of Food Safety at our annual Safefood Conferences.
To create awareness on the importance of improving the standards of food preparation and handling, EBM and URS have jointly embarked on a project for upgrading a local school canteen complying with international standards.
Key benefits of a Safefood canteen:
• Students are provided with the nutrients they need to develop into healthy adults.
• Prevents illnesses when food is prepared and served in hygienic conditions.
• Parents’ confidence in the quality of food & beverage provided by the canteen.
The school years are critical in establishing healthy lifestyle patterns for their students, and the canteen is
in a unique position to make a positive, worthwhile contribution to realize this shared responsibility with the
school.
